Two security guards and a patient in an adjacent bed were also assaulted before the male could be restrained in his bed.
Police attended but the male still required medical attention and was not arrested at that time. He was arrested Tuesday on his release from hospital.
A 42-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, three counts of assault, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and three counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing.
