A Woodstock man faces assault and theft charges after a shoplifting incident turned violent Wednesday.
Just after 4 p.m. police were called to a business on Woodlawn Road West. A male had attempted to leave the business with power tools valued at approximately $700 when he was stopped by staff.
A physical altercation ensued during which the man punched an employee twice in the face before freeing himself and running from the store. He was located outside by responding officers and placed under arrest.
A 39-year-old Woodstock man is charged with theft under $5,000, assault and assault to resist arrest.
