A company and one of its drivers face a combined 18 charges after an unsafe tractor-trailer was taken off the road last Thursday, report Guelph police.

Guelph police were patrolling on the Hanlon Expressway around 3 p.m. when an officer observed a tractor-trailer aggressively swerving onto the shoulder and stopping.

The officer stopped to check the driver’s wellbeing and found he was completing paperwork which is supposed to be done prior to driving the vehicle, including a daily inspection report.

An officer, who is also a certified commercial motor vehicle inspector and licensed mechanic, attended to examine the truck.

Several major defects were found including a number of bald tires, tires with low pressure and brakes out of alignment due to a bent axle. The truck was taken out of service and the driver and his employer charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
