Peggy Vaughan passed away peacefully at Wellington Terrace LTC in Fergus, Ontario on May 3, 2023 at 102 years of age.

Peggy was born in Toronto, just up the street from the Leuty Lifeguard Station, which shares her age. A Toronto (Beach) girl through and through she spent the first 99 years of her life there, before making a remarkably smooth transition to Guelph. The only child of proud Scots immigrants from Aberdeen, she spent many happy hours helping her dad at his fish store on Queen Street East. Her mother decided Secretarial "Science" was a more suitable calling and Peggy excelled. Peggy put her talents to good use, working at "old" City Hall during the war years and serving the Canadian Red Cross. Years later she amazed her children by typing their essays at lightning speed.

Always efficient, Peggy kept her five "boomer" children organized and busy, and would use a whistle to call them in at suppertime from playing with friends in the backyards of Fallingbrook and Courcelette Roads. Peggy volunteered in the community her entire life; at Courcelette Public School and Malvern Collegiate Home and School Associations, Cubs and Scouts, St. Aidan's and St. Nicholas Birch Cliff Church. Much later she was President at the Yonge-sters Association at Fellowship Towers Senior Living where she lived for over 15 years.

After retiring from a career in market research, Peggy enjoyed the freedom to travel and spend time with her children and grandchildren, visiting often in Quebec City, Ottawa, Guelph, Lake Huron and Prince Edward County along with trips to reunite with cousins in Scotland.

Despite living such a long life, Peggy was no fan of the golden years, declaring them "solid brass". Still, she maintained her sense of humour and sense of self to the end. She recently told her caregivers that she did not want to be around to see Charles become King. She got her wish.

GP has been a loving constant in the lives of her children Michael, Peter, Ian, Russell and Jennifer and their partners. She was a much-loved grandmother to James, Beatrice, Alec, Katie, Simon, Victoria, Nicholas, Eleanor, Stacey and Rebecca, and a very proud great grandmother of six.

The family expresses our deep appreciation to the marvelous friends and caregivers she met during the past four years at the Elliott Community and Wellington Terrace. As Peggy often said, " I am so lucky".
