It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Tunney at St. Peter’s Hospital on Wednesday January 29, 2025, at the age of 85. Cherished Nan to Connie Tunney, Jody Craig (Ryan), Stephanie Myles (Chris), Eric Levely (Andrea) and Lucas Levely. Great-Grandma to Richard Smith, Alyssa Hernandez (Doug), Harrison Turner, Kayleigh Turner, Brianna Craig, Rhyse Craig, Colton Myles, Chase Myles, Brooks Levely, Easton Levely. Adored Great-Great-Grandma (GG)of Alexander Hernadez. Beloved sister to Judy Nickel, Murray Neabel, Graham Neabel, Howard Neabel (Mary-Lou), Ken Neabel (Anne). Predeceased by her parents William and Irene Neabel (Graham), brother Gord Neabel, sisters Dorthy Fisher and Helen Neabel and brothers-in-law Robert Nickel, Julius Fisher and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Neabel and Gloria Neabel. Loving remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley loved to keep in touch with loved ones and was rarely found without her tablet or phone in her hand connecting with loved ones through Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. Her strong independence was evident until the very end, even with mobility challenges she was cooking and vacuuming – living by the motto, “If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it!”
Shirley had a passion for baking. Her pies, banana bread, and cookies were legendary, all made without a recipe but always made with love. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, laughter and a spirit that will never be forgotten.
Shirley’s family and friends will forever treasure her memory, holding onto the warmth and energy she brought into every room.
A heartfelt thank you to all the amazing doctor’s and staff at the Hamilton General Hospital and St. Peter’s Hospital for all their exemplary care they provided to Shirley in her final weeks.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, February 6 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin Street, Guelph. A service will take place in the chapel at 1:00 pm, followed by a reception.
