It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mario Tonin, who left us peacefully just two days after celebrating his 86th birthday. Beloved husband of 56 years to Giovannina Tonin, Mario was a devoted family man, proud father to Vania Tonin (Patrick) and Eddy Tonin (Kris), and cherished “Nonno” to his three granddaughters, Mia, Olivia, and Zoe.

Mario was a well-known and much-loved presence in the Guelph community. His warm and social personality made him a friend to many, and his quick wit and love of laughter brightened countless gatherings with family and friends. Mario’s passion for Italian traditions was evident in his love of playing cards, especially Tresette, enjoying bocce matches, and tending to his beautiful garden. He treasured his Friday night and Sunday get-togethers, where good company and a friendly game always awaited.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many doctors who cared for Mario throughout his journey. Special thanks to St. Joseph’s Palliative Care Unit and to Father Vernon Boyd for his visits and spiritual guidance. Deep appreciation goes to Dr. LoStracco, Dr. Ruddock, and the Palliative Care Team for their compassionate care, especially nurses Lovenia, Jim, Jass, and Thimo, as well as the dedicated PSWs—Tammy, Amanda, and Valentina.

Mario’s legacy is one of love, friendship, and community. His joyful spirit and dedication to those he loved will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

Resting at the Brombal Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, on Sunday, March 30, 2024, from 2-5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 31, 2024, from Holy Rosary Church, 175 Emma Street, Guelph, at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will be held at Marymount Cemetery.

In memory of Mario, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
