It is with great sadness, but gratitude for how long we had her in our lives, that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Kathryn Taylor (nee Cooke) of Guelph Ontario peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday December 28, 2024, in her 94th year. Mary was the much loved wife of Bill Taylor (predeceased 2011), devoted mother and friend to Michael Taylor (Candace) and Nancy Rudyk (Michael), proud grandmother to Gaelan (Julia), Aiden (Megan), and Gabriel Taylor, Elizabeth Rudyk and Andrew (Jordan) Rudyk, and much loved great grandmother to Cooper Rudyk and Caia Taylor. Mary was predeceased by her parents Percy and Bertha Cooke and brother George Cooke.
Mary attended Parkdale Collegiate, Toronto, and graduated as a Registered Nurse from St Joseph’s Hospital (Toronto) class of 1953. Mary worked as a community and bed side nurse for many years. She was very proud to be a nurse and organized yearly class reunions until several years ago.
Mary and Bill were both tireless volunteers in Guelph which mom continued after Bill’s passing. She was a volunteer at the Guelph General Hospital for over 30 years and was recognized by the hospital for her contributions. She also supported the Rotary Club’s breakfast program for children and was a member of the PROBUS club of Guelph.
Mary devoted much time to her lovely friends and enjoyed playing weekly bridge games and attending a monthly book club. Mary was a warm and caring person with a passion for life, built a strong community of lasting friendships in Guelph, and was cherished by her family, extended family and friends. Mary will be deeply missed but is now with her beloved Bill.
Cremation has taken place. At Mary’s request a celebration of her life will be held in the early spring. Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert Macintyre & Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph.
Expressions of sympathy as donations in Mary’s name to the Guelph General Hospital would be greatly appreciated by the family.
