The family of Anthony (Tony) Smith sadly announces his passing, at home, on October 16, 2019. He was in his 82nd year.
Husband to Elizabeth Smith, father of the late Michael Smith, Ben Smith (Marisa Martin) and Mary Anna Smith (John Hepworth) and grandfather to Sam, Charlie and Molly, Tony loved his family and was proud of his grandchildren. He was brother to Daphne Smith of Guelph.
As a graduate from Mechanical Engineering (U of T ’61), he continued studies in Hydraulic Engineering in the Netherlands and completed a PhD program in Civil Engineering at the University of Ottawa.
As a young engineer, he participated in a four-year water resources study and training program in Trinidad. Later, he enjoyed his work at the Grand River Conservation Authority as Director of Water Management.
Tony enjoyed camping with his family, sailing, canoeing and skiing. In his youth, he played rugby and in retirement, he and his wife biked in many parts of Europe.
