Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday November 5, 2024 in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Robert “Bob” James Simpson (1996). Loving mother of Susan Poon Tip, Kathleen (Steven) Wicks and Sarah (Keith) Yip Choy. Caring grandmother of Christopher, Matthew, Alison, Spencer, Carlee and Connor. Great-grandmother of Mason and Reagan. Predeceased by her sister Ann Brown (2023) and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families.

Jane was born in Havana, Cuba in 1929, living and attending school there until moving to Lennoxville Quebec to be with her parents Arthur & Jean White. She attended Bishop’s University, majoring in History and English then later continuing to Teacher’s College. Jane and Bob Simpson were married in 1954 and began their family, in 1966 they moved to Niagara Falls. Jane taught various grades within the Niagara area school system until retiring in 1980 then started working as a Realtor. She continued to nurture her love of education by attending courses at Brock University and as a fluent Spanish speaker, volunteered as an interpreter and ESL teacher.

Service to her community always played a very important role in Jane’s life. As a long time member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican, she enjoyed volunteering there in many capacities, particularly with the Sunday School. She made time for reading to children through Big Sisters and was a long time Meals on Wheels volunteer. Jane enjoyed travel at every stage of her life, most recently traveling yearly with her university friend and making a special return visit to Cuba with her daughters in her 80th year. Always an avid reader, Jane was an active book club member, reading books and following political commentary and current events until the last weeks of her life.

Jane will be remembered for her energetic interest in, and unwavering support for her daughters, extended family and her treasured long-time friends. She never stopped staying in touch and showing care for everyone connected to her.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service at St. John’s the Evangelist Anglican Church, 3428 Portage Road, Niagara Falls (Stamford) on Saturday November 23, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Following the funeral service, Jane & Bob’s remains will be laid to rest together next door to the church at Stamford Green Heritage Columbarium with a memorial gathering at the Parish Hall of the church after.

Her family would like to thank The Ellington Team (Elliot Community) in Guelph for their dedicated support, compassion and genuine kindness. Should anyone wish to honour Jane’s memory with a donation, they are encouraged to select any charity or organization which serves their own family’s community.
