(June 3, 1934 - July 3, 2016) - With much sadness, the Sibley family announces the peaceful passing of George. Having had a full life, he was called home to God on July 3, 2016. George passed away after a short, valiant struggle with cancer at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. He is survived by his loving wife, and best friend, Patricia (nee Martin) of 53 years, also of Oshawa. Dear father of his son Shawn, loving father-in-law to Colleen Loughran-Sibley, and proud grandfather of their children Emily and Joshua, all of Whitby, Ont. Predeceased by his parents Doris (2010) and Henry (1980) Sibley. Brother to Heather, Vern, and the late Ted (1999) all of Guelph.
A man of strong opinions, with a great sense of humour, and one of the most contagious laughs, George will be remembered by all who knew him. We are blessed that he was ours! The family is deeply grateful and wishes to thank the nurses, service assistants and environmental staff, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on the 9th Floor. We also appreciate the support of the CCAC and the hospital’s Social Worker during George’s stay.
Cremation has taken place. At George’s request, there will be no funeral. A private celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date, at Wall-Custance Funeral Home, for family and close friends. Final resting place will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph. To honour family tradition, only if desired, you can donate to The Guelph Poppy Trust Fund of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 234. OR, just smile and say hi to a complete stranger! Memories and condolences would be most appreciated and may be made online at www.wallcustance.com.
A tree will be planted in memory of George H. Sibley in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 2:30 pm.
