November 2, 1931 Toronto – July 13, 2024 Alliston

Jack passed peacefully and stoically on his own terms in his 93rd year, at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston.

Best friend and husband to Joan for over 70 years, proud father to John (Dominique), Daniel, Lori (Marc) and Jeffrey (Melinda). Papa Jack to Matthew, Marie, Harold and Chlöe, great-grandpapa to Louis and Aureliėn. He will be missed, especially in his recent community of the Kingsmere Retirement Residence.

Jack had a unique brand of humour and loved to talk, tell stories and jokes to everybody, always interested in and trying to engage with others no matter what the barriers may be. He was a technician, salesman, entrepreneur, gardener, DIYer, walker and avid reader, keen to learn and keep busy. Together with Joan, they applied their creative talents to establish a series of beautiful homes, thoroughly enjoying their nesting pursuits and family gatherings through the years, with some wonderful neighbours in Pine Meadows, Belwood and Tecumseth Pines, Tottenham.. He loved children, nature and animals, especially cats, pups and birds.

We wish to thank the Kingsmere team for welcoming and being so affectionate to Jack and Joan in the short time they’ve been residents. He was happy there, walking around the pond, enjoying the Friday music entertainment with a glass of wine and helping with the library in camaraderie with all. Jack was a man who planted trees. We will honour his legacy with a special planting in his memory.

If you wish to make an in memoriam donation, we know he would be pleased with support to Matthews House Hospice in Alliston or The Arboretum in Guelph.

With respect for Jack’s wishes, there will not be a service. Family and friends will gather at Thanksgiving, his favourite occasion, to celebrate him.

Arrangements entrusted to WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com).

A tree will be planted in memory of John (Jack) A. Scheffel in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
