8 November, 1941 - 6 February 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Giuseppe Ranalli in his 83rd year, who with his loved ones by his side, passed away on Thursday February 6, 2025, at the Guelph General Hospital. He was the loving father to Luisa Ranalli, Sandra Piteo and her husband Roberto, and proud Nonno Peppe to Christian. He is now reunited with his everlasting love, Lili(Liliana). Joe and Lili first met in Guelph and they treasured the 49 years they had together raising their family. He was a soft spoken, hard working man who worked many long hours, sometimes at two jobs, to provide for his family. Giuseppe believed in the importance of family gathering around the table, sharing meals and stories. It was also important to him that his daughters knew where he grew up and the importance of family traditions. Even though Giuseppe left Italy at a young age, part of his heart still belonged to the place he was born, Pennadomo, Italy. On Saturdays and Sundays, you could often find Giuseppe sitting on the couch by the window cheering on his favourite soccer team, Juventus. His home on Heath Road was like a little part of his hometown in Italy, and in the summer he loved sitting on the porch, either sleeping or visiting with all of his close family and friends.
Another passion that Giuseppe had was food and he always wanted to be a Chef. Anytime he met someone, he would proudly let them know he was a Chef. His culinary journey took him to Rome, Zurich and finally, Guelph. He worked at the University of Guelph for nearly 50 years and cooked for many dignitaries including Princess Anne and The Right Honourable Pierre Trudeau. Giuseppe took pride in his cooking, and it was prepared with passion and love as he put his special touch into the food he served to his family and friends;however, his favourite meal to make was pasta for his grandson Christian and himself.
Joe is predeceased by his parents, the late Giovanni and Domenica (nee Di Renzo). Dear brother of Pasquale (Celestina), Alfonso (Nicolina), Fiora (Giovanni), Mario (Elia) and Antonio (Angelina). Dear brother in law of Alessandro (Caterina), Luciano (Anna), and Renato. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Thank you to all of the staff at The Guelph General Hospital and St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center.
