Don, Fraser, Doc, husband, father, papa, friend, brother, uncle, passed away peacefully on January 2nd 2025, at Guelph General Hospital after a lengthy illness with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was 72 years old. He was born to Margaret and Don (2009) Porterfield.
He is survived by his loving wife Darlene of 49 years. He was the loving and devoted father to Darryl (Lindsay), Jennifer (Jeff) and Ian (Vanessa). He was an extraordinary papa to Celina, Colin, Ellie, Savannah, Sloan, Oaklyn, Bodhi, Ripley and Athena.
He is survived by his siblings, Glenn (Jackie), Craig (Sharon) and Karen (Kim).
Don was a proud police officer, retiring as the Deputy Chief of the Guelph Police Service after serving for 34 years. He cherished the lifelong friendships he made throughout his career and in various roles. He loved his community and making it a better place.
The legacy he leaves behind him is immeasurable.
Don’s life will be honoured with a Celebration of Life, to be held at the Guelph Country Club, on March 8th, 2025 from 1pm-4pm with words of remembrance at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St Joseph’s Hospital or the Wounded Warriors Canada foundation.
