October 29, 1935 – August 24, 2024

Our family is heartbroken to tell you of our Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather’s passing after some time of being unwell. Jim McEachern leaves to mourn his loving wife Elizabeth (Liz), Children, Ann (Tim), Mary (Mike), Jim (Sara) and Janet (Pat). His Grandchildren, Josh (Jenn), Brianna (Travis), Stephen, William and Emily. His great grandson Maverick.

Jim was born and raised in Stellarton, Nova Scotia and was incredibly proud of his Scottish heritage. He was born to Mary McEachern on October 29th, 1935. His Father James Alexander McEachern passed away in the mines prior to our Dad’s birth. He was welcomed with open arms by his two older sisters Katherine (Kay) and Colleen, who doted on him his entire life. There were no siblings closer than these three. Our Dad was a man of many words, a kind soul, and an infectious laugh. His heart was huge, his love to tell stories even bigger, and a need to make everyone feel loved and happy was great.

As a young man, Jim, loved to play all kinds of sports. Hockey and baseball were his favourite. He joined the Army and had stints in Israel. Jim and his buddies set on an adventure out West, and landed in Calgary AB, undenounced to him, where he would meet his one love, our Mother, Elizabeth (Liz). Their courtship was short and they married in Ontario, and started their marriage in New Brunswick. Dad received his Engineering Degree from the University of New Brunswick and spent his career as an Electrical Engineer. Mom and Dad moved to Guelph Ontario to live and raise their family, where their family still live to this day. Last October, our parents celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

Playing golf and strumming a guitar were two things Dad loved to do. Playing Euchre, Bridge, and a good game of checkers were also a great time for Dad. He was an avid reader, loved Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune nightly and was a big fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Dad was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Guelph. Many hours were spent listening to Cape Breton music in addition to the Bagpipes that brought him so much joy.

He was an incredibly handy fellow, who could fix anything anywhere, from barbecues to cars, and everything in between. He did many renovations, decks, and fixes for his children as well. He loved being able to repair anything, so for it not to be replaced.

Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St N., Guelph, where the family will receive their friends on Monday, September 2, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church 175 Emma St., Guelph, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Marymount Cemetery, Guelph.

In honour of Jim McEachern, and only if you are well enough and able, a donation of blood to your local Canadian Blood Services would be appreciated or a donation to the Guelph General Hospital would be equally cherished. Thank you, the McEachern Family
