August 13, 1934 - August 24, 2024

Passed away on August 24 at the age of 90 with his family at his side. He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Shawna (Neil Dunsmore), Elaine (Bill Gardner), Erin (Martin Lunkenbein), his brother, Don, and his grandchildren, Jeremy, Timothy, Graham, Markus and Anna. He was predeceased by his parents George Douglas Mallory and Marjorie Oakes (Smith) Mallory and his beloved wife of 55 years Jane (Curran) Mallory.

Robin grew up in Ottawa and spent his summers at the family cottage on Lac Phillipe in the Gatineau hills. He attended Queen’s University where he became a Metallurgical Engineer (Science 59) and met and married Jane. After graduation, Rob and Jane settled in the far northern community of Eldorado, Saskatchewan, later moving to Quebec: first Baie Comeau, then Asbestos, and finally Richmond. After retirement, Rob and Jane moved back to Kingston.

Travel was a constant in Robin’s life and he and Jane shared many travel adventures exploring lesser-known destinations such as Croatia, Malta, and Tunisia. He was an avid stamp collector, loved making his own wine, and enjoyed live music – particularly jazz. He was always involved in his church, from replacing light bulbs to leading worship. His whole life Robin enjoyed the outdoors, from his summers at the family cottage in his youth, to camping with his young family in Vermont and the Maritimes, to summers at the family cottage on Breeches Lake - where Robin windsurfed well into his 70s. He loved to entertain and will be well-remembered for his sense of humour and wit. He will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to the staff at Riverside Glen (Erin neighbourhood) and Hospice Wellington for their care.

A celebration of life will be held October 12 at 12:30 p.m. at Sydenham Street United Church in Kingston.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Sydenham Street United Church, Queen’s University, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
