It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn May MacKinnon on Friday, October 13th, 2023, peacefully in her sleep.

Evelyn was predeceased by her father James Russell, mother Alice May and is survived by her husband Colin, her children Kevin (Amanda) and David (Tonya), as well as grandchildren Ethan and Maryssa, sister Janice and brother Greg. Evelyne was born raised and passed in Guelph. She spent most of her life in Guelph close to her mother May, while briefly living in Toronto and Montague P.E.I.

She graduated from Nightingale School of Nursing, Toronto in 1974. She soon after proudly began her career as a Registered Nurse working at Mount Sinai Hospital Toronto from 1974 to 1981. Continuing her career after that, she worked at The Homewood Health Centre in Guelph from 1981 to 1982. After a 2-year break living in P.E.I Evelyn returned to Guelph and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital from 1984 to 2001. She ended her career with Guelph General hospital from 2001 until 2011 when she had to leave her career just before retirement due to medical reasons. It was one of the most difficult times she had and hardest decisions she had to make because her family and career were her 2 greatest passions in life. She spent her spare time playing board games with her family, taking her children on vacations and spending time with “The girls” from work shopping and trading baked goodies. She was a great woman with a big heart that found pleasure by helping others and making others happy, always putting others before herself. She will be missed.

A private graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial. Arrangements entrusted to WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com).

Memorial Donations can be made in Evelyn Mackinnon’s name to the Canadian Mental Health Association or call Susan Macartney at 416-977-5580 ext. 4122. 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
