It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Andrew "Andy" Leonard Kozakavich, who peacefully left us on February 6, 2025, at Guelph General Hospital. Born on November 6, 1928, in Goodeve, Saskatchewan, Andy was the beloved son of Hnat and Kateryna Kozakavich.
Andy was a devoted husband to Helen for 68 years, a cherished father to Douglas, and a proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews. His love for his family was unsurpassed, and he dedicated his life to raising them with the same care, kindness, devotion and sense of humour that he showed everyone around him. He was proud of his Ukrainian Canadian heritage, and his roots in Saskatchewan as one of 17 brothers and sisters helped shape the man he became - patient, resilient, hardworking, compassionate, and generous.
A passionate educator, Andy spent much of his life teaching and inspiring young minds. His love for children and his unwavering commitment to education, whether as a teacher or later a principal and superintendent, made him a respected figure in the lives of those he worked with and mentored. His impact was incalculable and will be felt for generations to come.
Andy loved to travel, and those experiences helped inform his positive outlook on life, as well as his appreciation of his home and native land. He will be deeply missed by his wife Helen, son Douglas, and all those who had the joy of knowing him.
A private committal service will be held at a later date, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Andy's lifelong dedication to others.
