Peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital on Saturday, November 9, 2024 in his 91st year.
Jim was the loving father of Heather (Kevin) and grandfather to Ryan and Dawson. He was the dearest brother to Noreen. Former husband to Maureen. Jim was predeceased by his longtime companion Cecelia.
Jim was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed sports such as hockey as a teenager, riding his motorcycle and dancing.
He immigrated with Maureen to Canada in the late 1950’s, settling in the Etobicoke area. He worked first as a carpenter and then as a purchasing agent for most of his working years.
Jim was actively involved in his daughter’s sports, coaching baseball and ringette for several years. Using his trumpet skills from his time in the boy’s brigade in Belfast, Jim was always captured on TV Saturday evenings at Maple Leaf Gardens ramping up the crowd during the 70’s.
Ballroom dancing was his passion. He cruised and travelled extensively, seeing many countries and enjoying their history and of course dancing on cruise ships while on holidays.
A special thank you to Guelph General Hospital 6th floor doctors, nurses and all of staff for the fantastic care and support. Thank you to Riverside Glen LTC for making Jim’s short stay enjoyable.
Private cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel 1099 Gordon St., Guelph on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 1-4 p.m.
