December 3, 1931 – January 6, 2025

On Monday, January 6, 2025, our loving Mother passed away peacefully, with her family by her side in her own home.

Predeceased by brother Grenville, daughter Jenny, husband Donald, son Neil (Michelle), and granddaughters Sarah and Catherine. Survived by children Dale (Pam), Wayne (Wendy), Christy (Bob) and Glenn, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and sisters-in-law Ellen Harrison and Jan Duff.

Marlyn had a great fondness of the outdoors; she was an avid bird watcher and cared deeply for all critters. Her summers were spent at Aylen Lake, Ontario as a youngster canoeing, fishing and hiking. While raising her children on the farm south of Guelph, Marlyn wisely used the opportunity to teach her children responsibility and instilled a love for nature while caring for the animals. In later years, she could be found tending her beautiful perennial gardens accompanied by one of her beloved cats, and feeding and watching all the animals who scampered around.

She enjoyed visitors and was usually up for a game of Scrabble or cards, ensuring her guests were able to enjoy one of her amazing home cooked meals or a snack with a good cup of hot tea. Marlyn loved to sing and laugh and encouraged all of us to make the most of every day with joy. The smallest things made her happy; she would share her vast knowledge of trees, flowers and animals with anyone who cared to listen. Her words were always gracious and gentle, sprinkled with kindness and love. Watching football was one of her favourite pastimes, and she would playfully bet on her winning team, Kansas City.

She truly was a devoted, selfless caregiver, losing two of her own children to Cystic Fibrosis and nursing her own Mother and husband to the end of their lives.

Marlyn was an employee of T.W. Hand Fireworks Company, Cooksville in her younger years. Her first paycheque enabled her to purchase a pressure cooker that was utilized her entire life, beginning in her Mother’s restaurant, The Country Kitchen in Cooksville. Marlyn was a fantastic cook and all those she served were enchanted by her delightful smile and happy demeanour. She later worked at Sterling Rubber in Guelph.

Marlyn will be greatly missed by her family. A celebration of life and interment will be planned at a later date. Cremation has taken place.

The family wishes to thank the nurses from Bayshore HealthCare, Dr. Kotalik and the staff at Wall-Custance Funeral Home for their care.

A tree will be planted in memory of Marlyn A. Jacobson in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
