It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Derek Hodge on July 24, 2024 at the young age of 44 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington, Guelph with his mother’s hand in one and his wife Jessica’s in the other, holding upright until his very last breath all while saying I love you right up until the hours before he passed.

A man whose kindness, care, and humour touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Derek was known for his warmth and generosity, always ready with a smile and a helping hand.

Loving husband to Jessica Hodge (Powell). Beloved son to Brian and MaryAnn. Cherished brother to Tanya (Adam) Legate and Drew (Rachel). Treasured grandson to Jim and Jackie Hodge and the late Jimmy and Jean Milne. He will be dearly missed by his beloved nieces, nephews; Shaylin (Rye), Nash, Hailey, Austin, Evan; sister-in-law Jen Canning, cousins, friends, god children, all his extended family, and of course, his treasured fur babies Aria and Maverick.

Derek was not only known for his unwavering dedication to his family but also for his remarkable talent in the world of competitive pool. His passion for the game was evident in every match he played, and he was respected and admired by his fellow players and competitors. Even winning two trips while battling his cancer, calling himself the G.O.A.T.

His family would like to thank all the Doctors, nurses and care teams from Guelph General Hospital, Bayshore, and Hospice Wellington for all their compassion care provided to not only Derek during his fight but also his wife Jessica.
