It is with heavy hearts and sweet memories that we announce the passing of Virginia “Ginny” Lee Hammill (Wildfang) on October 30th, 2024, in Guelph, ON. Born on May 21, 1937. Ginny is predeceased by her parents, Dr. Earl and Viola Wildfang, her beloved husband, William “Bill” Hammill, her sister Barb Elliott, and her brother Doug Wildfang.

Her greatest love in life was with Bill, whom she shared 64 years of marriage. They met, as teenagers at Inverhuron Beach on Lake Huron in the 1950’s and their life together was filled with laughter, patience and understanding. Second only to her love for her husband, was her passion for being a mother and a grandmother (Nanny). She cherished every moment spent with her boys, Tom (Hetty), Chris and her grandchildren, Bekki (Ian), Dan and Jack. Her family was her pride and joy, and she dedicated her life to nurturing, caring, and baking their favourite cookies for them. She embraced the role of Wife, Mom, and Nanny with immense pride.

A 1959 graduate of the Guelph General Hospital School of Nursing, Ginny's brief nursing career was marked by her compassion for others, a trait that permeated all aspects of her life. She formed lasting relationships within the Georgian Peaks Ski and Bay Moorings Yacht Clubs, maintained lifelong bonds with her girlfriends, hosted annual nursing luncheons for decades, and volunteered at the Evergreen Seniors Library.

Ginny may have been small in stature, but she was mighty in spirit. Her home was her proud sanctity and a place of warmth and generosity, where anyone who visited was welcomed with open arms and rarely left empty-handed. Her nurturing extended beyond, to the many cats she raised, and to the backyard chipmunks who ate peanuts from her hand. Ginny often shared stories of her childhood in Moorefield, ON, where she was the youngest of three children. She fondly recalled sneaking visits into her father’s medical practice, climbing snowbanks, and riding her beloved horse, Gerry. A lover of great books, fancy teacups, a lasting perm, Sunday afternoon golf, the Toronto Blue Jays and “homemade everything,” Ginny found much joy in the simple pleasures of life.

Ginny’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Ginny’s life on December 6th from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph. A family inturnment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 762 Woolwich Street, Guelph.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice Wellington in her memory. Donations and condolences can be made online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson-dublin.com
