Dr. Carlton Gyles, a distinguished scientist and dedicated family man, passed away on February 21, 2025, in Florida at the age of 84. Born in Guys Hill, Jamaica, on May 15, 1940, to John and Myrtle Gyles, Carlton pursued his education at the University of Guelph, where he earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and a PhD in Physiology. His groundbreaking work in E. coli research, vaccine development, and food safety has had a lasting impact on public health worldwide.

Beyond his professional achievements, Carlton was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He found great joy in tennis, dominoes, table tennis, and bike riding, but his greatest happiness came from time spent with family. He will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

Carlton is lovingly remembered by his children, Carla (Andrew) and Curtis (Lorrie); his grandchildren, Aaron, Alyssa (Ryan), Nathan (Chelsea), and Marcus (Jenna); and his great-grandchildren, Aria, Lincoln, Lily, Ezekiel, and Fletcher. He is also deeply missed by his siblings, Philmore, Grace, and Michael, as well as his many nieces and nephews, who hold fond memories of their Uncle Carl.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kaye, as well as his brother Johnny and sister Mary. He is also fondly remembered by Audrey Depass and her daughters, Denise and Michelle, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Friends and Relatives are invited to visit Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home - Hart Chapel (1099 Gordon St. Guelph) on Saturday, March 29 from 1 – 2 pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. His contributions to science and humanity will continue to make a difference for generations to come. Carlton will be remembered not only for his brilliance but for his generosity, compassion, and dedication to making the world a better place.
