Posted

It is with sad hearts that the family of John Wallace Ferguson announces his passing in his 82nd year, on June 6, 2016 peacefully at home with family by his side. Beloved husband of Donelda (nee Paproski) of 57 years. Wally is survived by his children, Sherri (Arnold), Mark (Cheryl) and Jeff (Wanda). Wally was the very proud grandpa and papa of Justin (Charlie) , Colton & Eli. Raised by Eileen and Marc (deceased) Mallet. Survived by brothers Arden, Clayton, Pat and Freddie. Predeceased by parents, Frank and Bertha Ferguson. Predeceased by brothers and sisters Ernest, Richard, Mina, Birdie, Hilda, Clifford, Yvan, Gladys, Ethel and Kenneth. Survived by sister Myrtle. Wally will be sadly missed by his sisters in-law and brothers in law and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Wally was born and raised in New Brunswick and graduated from Universite du Sacre Coeur College before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he proudly served for five years. Wally and Donelda met in Calgary, married on her family's homestead farm in Saskatchewan and settled in Ontario to raise their family. Wally retired from Nortel after 33 years, installing communication systems in every corner of the Province, making great friends along the way. Many thanks to the PSWs and the Palliative Care Team that supported his ability to be at home. As per his wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Instead, friends and family will gather at the Royal Canadian Legion, in Acton, on Saturday June 11, 2016 from 2-4. Wally was cremated and there will be a dedication service in the "Memorial Forest Grove Arboretum, University of Guelph", on Sunday, September 18, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the ALS Society or charity of your choice.

A tree will be planted in memory of J. Wallace (Wally) Ferguson in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 2:30 pm.
