Margaret Dunk passed away peacefully on Nov. 13, 2021 at Hospice Wellington.
Margaret, known to everyone as Peggy, was born to Dick and Margaret Dagley in Rugby, England on December 24, 1921. She lived in Oxford, England until she married her Canadian soldier, Harold Dunk there on May 31, 1945. Peggy travelled to Canada on a ship full of war brides and their children in the fall of 1946. They arrived at Halifax Pier 21 where she and the other women were immediately boarded onto a train headed west. Peggy’s destination was Toronto. She lived in the GTA until the early ’70’s when the family moved to Guelph. Peggy was quite happy living in Guelph. She made friends and was a faithful member of Parkview Church. Peggy’s main interests and passions outside of her family to whom she was a devoted mother, were reading, flowers, cats, and brisk, long walks. In November 2018, Peggy moved into Riverside Glen, Williamsburg East. She was very happy there and would repeatedly tell her children that she hoped that when they got to be her age they could live in a place as nice as that. The family are deeply grateful for the wonderful care and affection given to our mom by all of the staff at Riverside. Peggy was also grateful and appreciative. The family are thankful for the excellent care given over her last few days by the staff at Guelph General Hospital and Hospice Wellington. Mom was so fortunate receive so much in the end.
Peggy is survived by daughter Judith (Roland) Turner; sons John Dunk, David (Shirley) Dunk, Timothy (Angela) Dunk, Paul (Brenda) Dunk, Andrew (Lisa) Dunk; daughter-in-law Jill Dunk; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren on the way; sister-in-law Rosemary Dagley in England and many nieces and nephews in Canada and England.
Predeceased by parents Dick and Margaret Dagley; husband Harold Dunk; great-granddaughter Rowan Dunk; brother Charles Dagley; brothers- and sisters-in-law Paul (Teresa and Carole) Dunk and Leona (Alvin) Plante.
There will be a private family memorial service on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11am at the Wall-Custance Funeral Chapel. Guests may attend remotely via Zoom by clicking the link on the funeral home website at: www.wallcustance.com.
