December 17, 1930 - March 22, 2025
Passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Saturday March 22, 2025, at the age of 94. Devoted husband for 68 years to Iolanda (née Di Renzo). Loving father to Bruno (Susan), Manuela (Rino) Basciano, and now reunited in heaven with his son Mario (Annemarie). Proud Nonno to Julia (Alexander), Laura (Ali), John, Eric, Maggie, Rachael (Yehya), Michael, Alessandro and Joseph and Bis-Nonno to his great-grand-daughters, Blair and Elliott.
Affectionally known as Gino, he now joins his parents, Domenico and Maria (née De Ritis), and his five siblings Nicola (Eda), Vincenza (Giuseppe), Anna (Donato), Giuseppe (Anna), and Lorenzo (Anna). Fondly remembered by his large extended family, including his brothers-in law, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Gino was born in Pennadomo, Italy and arrived in Canada on his 23rd birthday, December 17th , 1953. He worked for over 35 years at Owen’s Corning (Fiberglas Canada) while raising his family with Iolanda. Both worked tirelessly to provide their children with countless opportunities to succeed and thrive. His favourite life-long hobby was spending countless hours in his large, beautiful garden and greenhouse, growing many vegetables and fruits for all to enjoy. He also loved canning tomatoes and making wine every autumn. Gino’s greatest joy was his grandchildren, always wanting to know what they were doing and very interested in their pursuits. He was so very proud of the adults they became.
Special thanks go to Doctor McArthur and staff at Wyndham Medical, Doctor Shafir and the Palliative Care Team, the personal support workers who cared for Gino at home, and Hospice Guelph-Wellington. Your care for Gino in his last weeks did not go unnoticed.
