With heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Elizabeth Anne Carter on January 17, 2025. Lovingly remembered by her mother Gloria Anne Carter. Treasured sister of Wally Carter (Kelley), John Carter (Kim) and Nancy Carter (Ken Rilling). Devoted aunt to Harrison Carter (Shannon), Emma Spafford (Brendan), Hayley Carter, Benjamin Carter (Hanna Burnett), Madeline Carter (Adam Zgraja) and Marcus Rilling. Loving great aunt to five little ones. Predeceased by her father J. Ernest Carter.

Liz was a graduate of Erindale Secondary School where she excelled in basketball and volleyball, and the University of Guelph where she experienced campus life to the fullest. Liz remained active throughout her life and enjoyed tennis, skiing, swimming and her morning walks. After graduating she worked for Metropolitan Life, the Pension Commission of Ontario, and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. She appreciated her current work with the Digital Research Alliance of Canada. Liz made lifelong friendships along the way, which she nurtured and cherished.

Liz was a person whose warmth, optimism and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her heart was as generous as it was caring. Whether offering a trusted ear to a friend or lighting up a room with her radiant spirit, Liz was a source of comfort and strength to many. She was a generous member of her community, and proud to serve others. Liz was a dedicated member of the Junior League of Canada from 1990 and served as President from 2001-2002. Most recently Liz volunteered with Out of the Cold in Toronto, supporting those in need.

We all benefited from Liz's desire to bring people together. Whether it was a family pizza party, dinner at Chez Liz, or her annual Christmas drop-in, she had the ability to connect those she loved, and those who loved her. She was always the first to send a birthday card, reach out by phone, or invite someone to get together. Liz loved to travel, and was happiest by a pool, a lake or on the beach. She was a doting, understanding daughter, and a travel companion to Gloria.

Against all odds, Liz showed remarkable strength and resilience through her life, defying health challenges. Her determination to live her life fully and enthusiastically inspired all around her. There are no words to express the gratitude we have for the support Liz received from friends and colleagues, and the care she received from nurses, physicians, therapists and their administrative staff.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), the Arthritis Society of Canada, or the Out of the Cold Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
