It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Chester Carere Sr. on August 19, 2022 peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family. Chester leaves behind his much loved wife & best friend Shirley (nee Atto), daughters Sharon (Jerry Hasson), Colleen, Janice (Stephen Hurlbut) and son Chester Jr. (Inam). Dear grandfather of Randall, Leslie. Alexa, Sienna and Maya, and great grandfather of Ty, Grey & Reeve. He will also be missed by sisters Catherine Sherlock (Late Jim), Rita Stilo (Frank), sisters in law Ruth Barber (Late Chuck), Madeleine Carere (Late Romolo) and his many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father Giacomo & mother Vincenzia and by brothers William (Josephine), Cosmo (Elsie), Jack (Ella), Frank (Victoria) and Romolo, and sisters Mary Tessaro (Peter) and Fortunata. During Chester’s 97 years, he made a tremendous impact on his world. He was highly respected and admired by many as a loving husband and father, a caring friend, an outstanding business man, citizen and an exceptional person. Chester was very proud of his Italian heritage, his roots in St. Patrick’s ward and of the city of Guelph, his lifelong home. Chester will be fiercely and deeply missed and will remain forever in the hearts & minds of his family and friends and so many of those who knew him. Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, where the family will receive their friends on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Basilica of Our Lady on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Entombment in Our Lady Immaculate Mausoleum, Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. Guests are asked to please wear a mask for the visitation and Funeral Mass. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Guelph General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
