We all loved very much our Dad/Grandad/Great Grandad, Frederick Maurice Campbell, who passed away on August 24, 2017, just a few months before his 102nd birthday. Maurice was born on October 3, 1915 to parents, Thomas and Margaret, and older brother, Colin. The family struggled through the Great Depression in Montreal during which time Maurice managed to find work that would set him on his career as a Chartered Accountant. Maurice met Marguerite and they married on September 16, 1939. Maurice had joined the Black Watch in high school and remained with the Royal Highland Regiment in Montreal during World War 2 as a piper, marching the streets and playing his bagpipes to raise morale and money for war bonds. His daughter, Marjorie, was born in 1941, and his son, Peter, in 1944. The family moved to Guelph in the 1950s. Marjorie met and married Gorman Rosekat. Three grandchildren, Laura, Sandra, and Jeff, joined the crowd in 1966, 1969, and 1972. Sandra married Steve Jones, and (gradually) brought three great grandchildren to the party: Devon, Spencer, and Matthew. Jeff married Elisa Gerardo, and added two more great grandchildren to the mix: Lucas and Nicolas, and then Laura brought Liam into the fold. And we all welcomed Howard Parliament into the family when he married Marjorie in 2002. All of us will be on hand at and after the celebration of Maurice’s life, and we look forward to meeting you and hearing your favourite memories of Maurice. Of course, a number of important people will not be there, as they are already waiting to welcome Maurice Home. His parents, Thomas and Margaret, his brother Colin, his wife, Marguerite, and their son, Peter, and son-in-law, Gorman Rosekat, best friends, Bob Robson and Elsie Swanston, and many more friends and extended family are waiting for Maurice with smiles and open arms.
A service to celebrate Maurice’s life will be held at the Chapel of the Elliott Community (170 Metcalfe Street, Guelph) on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Please join us at the service and for coffee afterwards and share your favourite memories of Maurice. Instead of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Elliott Community, which played an important part in Maurice’s life for some 30 years, starting with his life lease condo, moving to the retirement community, and on to the long-term care facility. The nurses and staff took such excellent and loving care of Maurice in his later years, and your support and donations will help them continue their work with so many others. We thank you so much for being part of Maurice’s life and for your support and prayers as we remember him and celebrate his life and his journey Home. Arrangements entrusted to the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, (519-824-0031).
