It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anna Baxter on March 6, 2025, age 91, at Guelph General Hospital.

Loving mother to Robert (Kimberley).  Proud grandmother of Chelsey (Matt), Jordan (Nicole) and Jaemie.  Great-grandmother to Parker, Emerson and Evie

Dear sister of Erzsébet “Zsizsi”, Zsuzsanna “Suzi” and the late Peter. Cherished aunt of nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by husbands Jozsef (1990) Leslie (2003) parents Lajos and Anna.

Will be missed by all friends and extended family.

Anna “Baba” was born in Pécs Hungary in 1933. She had a tough life as many did growing up during wartime. She married Jozsef in 1954 when she was 21 years old. One year later she gave birth to Robert in her home town of Pécs. After the Hungarian revolution in 1956, Anna and Jozsef with their infant son made a daring escape from their war-torn country into Yugoslavia.  There they had to wait in a camp until they were able to immigrate to Canada to start a new life. It wasn’t easy starting from scratch in a strange country but as strong as Anna and her husband were, they were able to persevere to build a happy life.

They settled in Scarborough Ontario and made a great life for themselves. Anna worked as a nurse's aid and loved her job helping others. She later moved to Guelph to be close with her son and grandchildren. Anna was quick witted with a great sense of humour.  She will always be remembered by friends and family as an outgoing, opinionated, strong woman.

Anna was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed travelling, cooking, playing cards, reading, watching television and spending time with those she loved. Anna was fond of opera, classical and Hungarian music. She was a devout Catholic and was very generous to everyone in her life. Anna was happiest when spending time with her family. We will forever remember her smile when she saw her son and grandchildren. Anna will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our memories.

A Memorial Visitation for Anna will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Hart Chapel (1099 Gordon St. Guelph).  A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 noon in the chapel. Cremation has taken place.

As expressions of sympathy, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences can be made online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com
