November 20, 1946 - March 4, 2025

Susan passed away peacefully at her home in Guelph, Ontario.

She was predeceased by her parents David Richard (1974) and Edith Merle Anderson (nee McKeig) (2001).

A graduate of the University of Guelph Botany Program, Susan began her career as a laboratory technician for Agriculture Canada, Agrifood Canada in 1968, conducting diagnostic testing for various regulated animal health diseases. The laboratory changed government departments and focus several times and by 1995, Susan was the Quality Assurance and Safety Officer for the laboratory conducting diagnostic testing and research on foodborne diseases for Health Protection Branch, Health Canada. Susan’s work was instrumental in the laboratory gaining Accreditation Status to ISO Guide 25, through Standards Council of Canada. She liked to work independently and appreciated her ideas on procedures and processes being listened to and implemented. Susan retired from the Laboratory for Foodborne Zoonosis, Public Health Agency of Canada in 2003, after 35 years of service.

In her personal life, Susan was an avid horse person and animal lover. Over the years she owned several horses and adopted many cats and dogs. Susan was involved in the local CADORA (Canadian Dressage Owners and Riders Association), organizing events rather than competing in them. She will be greatly missed by many in that community especially by Vanessa Taylor, Cathy Retford and Shelley Higgins.

Susan enjoyed classical music and playing the piano until prevented by arthritis. Along with several of her friends, she regularly attended the Signature and Baroque series concerts of the Kitchener Waterloo symphony. Her knowledge of classical music was astounding.

Following retirement, Susan enjoyed the companionship of several close neighbours and the neighbourhood dog walking group. She will be especially missed by Pat Reilly for their pizza movie nights and tea times.

Susan was considered a member of the Greig family and her loss is deeply felt by Ed, Judy and Rob. Auntie Susan enjoyed her time with Phil, Alyssia, Joshua, Caleb and Emma Sunnucks. Susan was a caring friend to several former colleagues, including Mariola Mascarenhas, Christine Forsberg and the late Kris Rahn.

A more loyal friend than Susan cannot be found.

Cremation has taken place and internment in the McKeig family plot will take place at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.

A tree will be planted in memory of Susan E. Anderson in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
