Snelgrove snaps scoring slump in style as Storm rallies for win

Parker Snelgrove scored twice in a 6-4 victory over the Erie Otters

Parker Snelgrove picked a great time to break out of a slump.

The second year Guelph Storm forward had gone scoreless in 11 straight games heading into Thursday night's tilt against the Erie Otters at the Sleeman Centre. But he had the magic touch on this night, scoring twice as the Storm downed Erie 6-4 for a second straight win as the season winds down.

"It play on your mind a little bit, but I try not to let it," Snelgrove said of his scoring slump. "Team first. I just keep playing hard and it will come.

"I was definitely due for a couple of lucky bounces."

Snelgrove's two goals were in sharp contrast.

The first came late in the second period when teammate Eric Frossard threw a puck at the net that deflected off Snelgrove's thigh in front of the net past Erie goaltender Noah Erlinder.

The second was a thing of beauty. Early in the third Snelgrove took the puck near centre ice than went up the middle, dipsy-doodling his way through the Otters before beating Erlinder in close.

"(Hunter) McKenzie drove them back and then I found myself one-on-one so I went for it," he said of his second goal.

"It feels good to have a positive vibe in the room. It sucks when we lose and everyone's frustrated," said Snelgrove, who now has 11 goals on the season.

Guelph has two games remaining in its season: Saturday night in Owen Sound then Sunday afternoon at home against the Kitchener Rangers.

It was a tale of two different games over the first 40 minutes.

Erie led 2-0 after dominating the first period but the Storm came back with three second period goals, by Snelgrove, Leo Serlin and Jake Karabela, to make it a 3-3 game heading into the third.

Snelgrove's second goal made it 4-3, but Erie tied things up four minutes later.

Jett Luchanko provided the winner, firing a shot into the top corner on a partial breakaway with 8:39 left in the third period.

Thanks to a power play, Erie had a six-on-four situation in the final 1:39, but Zack Jovanovski stood tall between the home side's pipes and then Charlie Paquette was awarded a goal when he was hauled down on a breakaway with the Erie goalie pulled.

Max Namestnikov picked up a pair of assists and Jovanovski made 29 saves.

Guelph plays in Owen Sound Saturday in what is a huge game for the Attack as they try and secure a playoff spot.
