FLINT – Ryan McGuire returned to the Guelph Storm lineup with two goals Friday as the Storm downed the Flint Firebirds 6-4.

It was just Guelph's third road win of the season.

Guelph scored a pair of unanswered goals in the third, including McGuire's goal with 3:33 left in regulation. Quinn Beauchesne iced it with an empty netter.

It was McGuire's first game in Guelph since being the odd man out in the overage picture in early December, when he left to play for Caledonia of the GOJHL. The trading of Tommy Budnick opened up an overage spot and McGuire returned to the team.

Goals by Max Namestnikov, Carter Stevens, Parker Snelgrove and the recently-returned Ryan McGuire had Guelph up 4-1 with less than seven minutes remaining in the second period. But Flint scored three goals in a span of 2:46 late in the second to make it 4-4 heading into the third period.

The game started late due to an issue with the rink glass late in warm-up.

There was a further delay when Storm defenceman Noah Jenken was checked in the head by Flint's Connor Clattenburg midway through the first period. Jenken had to be stretchered off the ice, although he gave a thumbs up sign as he left the ice. His condition was not immediately known after the game.

Clattenburg received a head checking match penalty.

Guelph plays in Sault Ste. Marie Saturday night.
