Royals on brink of upsetting Welland in semifinal

Can advance to league final with a win in Guelph tonight

WELLAND – Conner Morro singled, doubled and drove in three in Guelph’s 12-3 Game 3 win Sunday in Welland.

The Royals have taken both meetings in the Rose City and lead the best-of-five semifinal 2-1. Josh Garton went 3-for-5 with two RBI, Frankin Torres drove in two on a pair of hits and scored three times, J.D. Williams had two RBI, and Garrett Takamatsu and Ethan Hammond each drove in a run.

Kyle Thomas (2-0) went five innings for the win. He allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. Drew Durst earned the four-inning save. He struck out three and dealt with just two baserunners.

Jake Sanford and Ethan Hunt each drove in a run for the Jackfish. Steven Moretto doubled and scored.
Enrique Saldana (1-1) was pulled with two outs in the first inning. He was tagged with three runs on three hits and two walks.

Game 4 goes Monday night in Guelph at 7:30 p..m.

Game 5, if necessary, would be Thursday in Welland.
