MISSISSAUGA – A 3-1 win over Sigma FC on Saturday clinched first place in the West Division for Guelph United.

United finished the regular season with a 10-2 record.

Captain and League1 Ontario golden boot prospect Jace Kotosopoulos opened the scoring eight minutes in. Sigma FC made a quick comeback beating Svyatik Artemenko just one minute later to tie up the match, marking Sigma’s first and only goal. Twenty minutes later, Kotosopoulos scored his second goal of the game in a penalty shot, his 15th goal of the season.

The final goal came in the 50th minute off the boot of Tomasz Skublak.

Said Kotosopoulos in a team release: “I am very pleased with our team’s performance and the result (this game) since a win today was crucial. Not only did we clinch first place in our first season, but now we are entering playoff on a solid win (which has given us) lots of confidence for playoffs”

United sits atop of the League1 Ontario West Division in their inaugural season and are set to face off against the second-place team of the East Division, Master’s FA.

That game is set for Saturday at 5 p.m. kickoff next Saturday at Alumni Stadium.
