Both the Guelph United men and women are gathering big points as they fight to stay in the League1 Ontario Premier League.

On Sunday, Kate Knafelc scored off a corner kick in the 73rd minute to push the women’s team over Blue Devils FC in Oakville. Jo Mazier registered the clean sheet.

The victory puts the women at 17 points, four clear of the relegation danger and three games left.

On Saturday, the men’s team played to a scoreless draw on the road against Alliance United.

Picking up the shutout for Guelph was Tristan Mitchell.

Sitting in 10th spot and nine games left, Guelph is two points ahead of Sigma FC who are in the relegation playoff position.

Both teams are back at home Sunday for Guelph Soccer Day.

The doubleheader will feature the men and women taking on the Vaughan Azzurri men and women. The men’s game goes at 2 p.m. and the women play at 5:30 p.m. at Centennial Bowl.

Youth soccer players in Guelph get free admission if wearing their team shirt. There will also be a fire truck on site around 3:45 p.m., along with plenty of food, drinks and activities.
