The Guelph Storm has slimmed its overage picture by trading winger Matt Papais to the Niagara IceDogs.
In return the Storm gets Niagara’s third round selection in 2025 and Oshawa’s fourth round selection in 2024.
Guelph now has four players on its roster eligible to return and fill its three overage spots next season: Forwards Cooper Walker and Ben McFarlane, defenceman Luka Profaca and goaltender Owen Bennett.
Papais had 19 goals and 21 assists in 60 regular season games for the Storm last season. In three seasons with the Storm he played 125 games, scoring 29 goals and adding 26 assists.
Papais was a seventh-round draft pick by Guelph in 2018.
The OHL had a small trade window open on Thursday before a trade freeze for the month of July.
On Friday the Canadian Hockey League will hold its annual import draft. Guelph holds the 35th and 95th overall.
