WINDSOR - Luke Kutkevicius finished off a two on one break 2:03 into overtime to give the Windsor Spitfires a 4-3 overtime win over the Guelph Storm in the season opener for both teams Thursday night.

The goal came 45 seconds after Guelph's Nate Schnarr almost ended the game with a shot that hit the crossbar.

Guelph outshot the Spits 46-29 but had trouble solving Windsor rookie import goaltender Kari Piiroinen.

A pair of third period goals by Liam Hawel had the Storm up 3-2, but Will Cuylie tied the game with a one-timer from the high slot at 13:14 of the third.

Schnarr had Guelph's other goal in the first period. Ty Collins had an assist, his first OHL point.

The Storm failed to score on six power plays.

Guelph hosts the Sudbury Wolves Friday night in its home opener.

The Storm played the game without two regulars, Ryan Merkley and Alexey Toropchenko, who are still at National Hockey League camps.
