LONDON — A solid outing came up just short for the Guelph Storm Wednesday night at Budweiser Gardens.
Jesse Willms scored with 28 seconds left in overtime to lift the London Knights to a 4-3 win over the Storm.
London defenceman Alec Regula stripped the puck off Guelph defenceman Fedor Gordeev as he exited the Storm end found Willms on the left side, who rifled a wrist shot into the top corner glove side on netminder Nico Daws.
Guelph's Ben McFarlane had tied the game 3-3 with 5:25 left in regulation.
Daws was the first star of the game as London outshot Guelph 41-30.
Guelph led 2-0 after one period on goals by Daniil Chayka and Keegan Stevenson.
Connor McMichael made it 2-1 with the only goal of the second period then Antonio Stranges and Billy Moskal scored in the opening 6:20 of the third period to give the home side a 3-2 lead.
Guelph will host the Erie Otters on Friday then travel to Windsor on Saturday.
