Guelph Royals set to open playoffs

The Guelph Royals will meet the London Majors in the opening round of the Intercounty Baseball League playoffs starting Friday in London.

Game 2 in the best-of-seven series goes in Guelph on Saturday at 7:30 p[.m., Game 3 in London on Sunday afternoon at 1 and Game 4 Tuesday evening in Guelph at 7:30.

Game 5, 6 and 7, if necessary, go Thursday Aug. 11 in London, Friday Aug. 12 in Guelph and Saturday Aug. 13 in London.

London beat the Kitchener Panthers 4-0 in a sudden-death game Monday night in London to determine who got first place overall in the standings. Both teams finished the regular season with 27-9 records.

Guelph finished last in the standings with a 7-29 record.

They wrapped up the regular season with an 8-3 loss to the Burlington Bandits Saturday at Hastings Stadium.

The two teams met five times in the regular season with London winning all five games by a combined score of 36-11. Twice they shut the Royals out.

The other quarter-final series sees the Kitchener Panthers (2) vs. Hamilton Cardinals (7), Barrie Baycats (3) vs. Burlington (6) and Brantford Red Sox (4) vs. Toronto Maple Leafs.
