Toronto Maple Leafs prove too much on opening day

TORONTO - The Guelph Royals fell 14-4 to the Toronto Maple Leafs in their season-opener Sunday at Christie Pits.

The Maple Leafs led 5-0 after two innings and never looked back, recording 18 hits off five different Guelph pitchers.

Guelph managed just five hits, two by Josh Garton. Quinton Bent hit a home run for the Royals.

Starter Daniel Marquez took the loss on the mound, surrendering five runs in just one inning of work.

Guelph plays in Barrie on Saturday.

The home opener is set for May 26 at Hastings Stadium versus London.
