Seven members of the Guelph Cyclones have captured gold with Team Canada at the ISBHF U16 junior world ball hockey championship in Slovakia.

A year ago, they were national champs.

After this past weekend, seven members of the Guelph Cyclones can call themselves world ball hockey champions.

Guelph’s Keilan Kirkpatrick scored twice in the final game, and Brady Snedden was among Canada’s leading scorers, as the national U16 team won gold at the ISBHF U16 junior boys world ball hockey championship in Slovakia.

Kirkpatrick and Snedden were part of a group that also consisted of Max Van Dam, Luke Saramak, Connor Laskowski, Rowan Reynard and goalkeeper Jackson Taraborrelli.

Canada won three of its five games during the round robin. It’s lone regulation loss came against Slovakia.

But redemption came for Canada in the final game against the host Slovaks. The two traded goals throughout regulation, neither team taking a two-goal lead throughout.

Canada came away with a 6-5 win in overtime to capture gold.

Snedden finished the tournament with 10 points, finishing in the top five among all players.
