Bad start sinks Guelph Storm in Windsor

Windsor opens with four straight goals in the first period in a 9-5 win over Guelph Thursday

WINDSOR – Ilya Protas scored a hat trick in the first period and added a fourth goal in the third to power the Windsor Spitfires to a 9-5 win over the Guelph Storm Thursday in Windsor.

Guelph trailed 4-1 after the opening period and couldn't get closer than two goals the rest of the way.

The Storm trailed 5-2 after two periods before Wil McFadden made it 5-3 early in the third. Windsor responded with two goals to make it 7-3. But goals by Charlie Paquette and Tommy Budnick made it 7-5 with 12 minutes to go.

Carter Stevens,  and Hunter McKenzie had Guelph's other goals.

Colin Ellsworth went all the way in net for Guelph, with shots being 35-35.

Guelph was 1-for-6 on the power play.

The Storm hosts the Owen Sound Attack Friday night.
