NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF GUELPH

*************************
June marks Recreation and Parks Month and the City of Guelph invites you to celebrate and get active by taking part in one of our free drop-in recreation activities or by visiting one of Guelph’s beautiful parks.

Try your hand at archery or a game of quidditch at Riverside Park, participate in a Zumba or yoga class, or enjoy a free swim at one of our indoor pools – all in celebration of Recreation and Parks Month.

This month long program is led by Parks and Recreation Ontario to promote the importance and benefits of being active and how recreation and parks contribute to quality of life for individuals, families, and communities.

“Guelph is a community that celebrates the benefits of recreation and parks every day. And we’re fortunate to have a variety of community and neighbourhood parks, an extensive trail system, and six recreation facilities that provide countless recreational opportunities for everyone,” says Heather Flaherty, general manager, Parks and Recreation.

International Trails Day

On Saturday, June 3, hit the trail on foot or by bike and celebrate International Trails Day. Guelph’s trail network encompasses more than 150 kilometres of open space. To learn more or access City trail maps, visit guelph.ca/trails.

June is Seniors’ Month

The City is also celebrating Seniors’ Month by hosting events and activities at the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre for residents 55 years old and older.  A flag raising ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 15 at 11:15 a.m. in front of City Hall. This year’s theme is ‘Living Your Best Life.’
