York Road is open again, essentially marking the completion of the third phase of its reconstruction.
York Road at Victoria Road has re-opened to traffic, city officials note in an online post.
The final paving is expected to happen in the spring as it needs warmer temperatures. During this time, York Road will remain open to two-way traffic. The paving is planned during the night to minimize traffic impacts but will have short-term road closures that may happen at that time.
The next phase of construction will start in the spring and will be at York Road between Watson Parkway and Skyway Drive.
During the most recent construction phase here is what was completed:
- Replacement of sewers and watermain that had reached their end of useful life
- Realignment and replacement of sanitary trunk sewers to allow for growth and ease of maintenance
- Extending the high capacity watermain to allow for growth and redundancy of a key piece of infrastructure
- Replacement of curbs, asphalt and sidewalks as well as adding bike lanes and a muti-use path to connect more people to York Road Park
- Coordinated the replacement and restoration of major Bell telecommunications infrastructure concurrently with city infrastructure
The city thanked people for their patience as it replaces old infrastructure.
