Carmela van de Geyn was walking through a city park a couple of weeks ago when she saw some children laughing and having fun.
"I was just walking through the park and there was a bunch of kids playing and I thought 'you know what, we haven't played like kids in about 50 years, so I think it's about time we do something'," van de Geyn said.
"I was stressed out and just thought that I need to relieve some of this stuff and came up with this idea."
She put thoughts into action and now the Guelph This and That Adults Only Water Gun Fight is set for Sunday, Aug. 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at York Road Park, just east of the Covered Bridge.
Adults will bring their own water, their own water guns and a pair of goggles and get wet and wild.
As the name implies, it's for adults (18 and over) only for fear of it being a bit wild for children.
Van de Geyn has no idea how many people will show up, but if all goes well, a separate one for children will be planned next year.
"If it does become a bigger event we could do one for both kids and adults, I was just worried kids might get bumped into and get hurt, so we're keeping this one to just adults," she said.
Anyone taking part is asked to bring their own water gun, goggles, a towel and their own water.
"It's our first one, but this could be so cool in the future," said van de Geyn, who would eventually like to see councillors, police and firefighters become involved.
"Let's hope this one turns out good so that the next one turns out even better," van de Geyn said.
"I'm just hoping that a few people show up this year and then it will become something that people had a lot of fun, we can do it on an annual basis and grow it."
There will be prizes for those having the most fun, van de Geyn said.
