Tree lighting in Guelph to set the Spirit of the Season into motion

About 300 people came to Market Square on Friday for the Mayor and Council's Tree Lighting

To kick off the first weekend of Spirit of the Season the Mayor and Council's Tree Lighting lit up Market Square on Friday with about 300 people in the crowd.

Spirit of the Season is a community celebration of the holiday season featuring festivities like the Santa Parade, Santa Run, Christmas marketplaces, a business storefront decorating competition and more. The organizing committee is made up of people from the Downtown Guelph Business Association, its board members and staff from the City of Guelph.

This year the committee chose the charity Keep Kids Fed At Home from the Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington to benefit from donations. It received a $25,000 cheque at the tree lighting event.
