Public health is making it easier for community members to stay informed when it comes to health inspections at local establishments.
Restaurants, tobacco retailers and more are getting QR codes to make it easier for people to access public health inspection results.
When a facility is inspected, it will be given a sign with a QR code to display. The code will lead to the Check Before You Choose website, which provides a summary of all health inspections in the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph region.
The website was launched in 2018 as a way to “empower the public with pertinent information regarding regulatory compliance of local establishments,” and to raise awareness about public health standards in Guelph, according to a recent public health report.
The website was relaunched last year to become more mobile friendly. Users can submit complaints or requests for inspection directly through the website.
It includes a summary of all inspection and investigation reports, as well as certain enforcement activity for places routinely inspected like restaurants, tobacco retailers, tanning beds and recreational water facilities.
Public health communications specialist Danny Williamson said the new signs with the QR codes are being handed out during routine inspections, so it will take some time before everyone has them up.
