Ahead of a possible provincial election, the candidate search has started for the Guelph Progressive Conservatives.

Premier Doug Ford has declined to publicly rule out an election ahead of June, 2026 – which is the next set election date.

There are a couple people who have put in their notice of intent to represent the party locally, said Bob Coole, president of the Guelph PC Riding Association. Qualities he’s looking for are honesty, integrity and commitment.

If there is more than one nomination-seeker, there will be a nomination convention held at a later date.

Guelph hasn’t had a PC MPP since Brenda Elliott, who was an MPP from 1995 to 2003.
