City officials are set to close a set of beach volleyball courts on Wednesday in order to allow for renovation work in the area.
The shutdown at W.E. Hamilton Park on Scottsdale Drive is expected to take about five weeks, with completion expected in the spring, a post on the city’s website explains.
“The sand used for volleyball courts must be periodically changed to remove organic material, facilitate drainage, and remove compaction,” states the post. “The city carries out maintenance of beach volleyball courts to make sure they continue to provide safe recreational spaces for the community.”
As the renovations are completed, a section of adjacent trail may see temporary interruption.
Trail impacts aren’t expected in the spring, as city crews put the finishing touches on the project with seeding and sodding the area, along with the planting of native trees and shrubs.
