NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF GUELPH

*************************
On Wednesday, May 4, the City of Guelph will host its annual Emergency Preparedness Day event at the West End Community Centre.

This free event, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is open to the public. Residents are invited to check out Guelph Fire’s aerial truck, rescue vehicles and equipment, as well as displays from first response organizations, utilities and volunteer groups.

The Canadian Red Cross will set up a small demonstration evacuation shelter for people to view.

Taking place during the 21st annual national Emergency Preparedness Week, May 1 to 7, Guelph’s Emergency Preparedness Day is an opportunity for the public to learn about emergency management and personal preparedness from the City’s Emergency Services personnel.

This year’s national theme is ‘Plan. Prepare. Be Aware’—serving as a reminder to Canadians to take action to protect themselves and their families during emergencies.

At home, residents are encouraged to prepare a 72-hour emergency kit as emergencies can strike a community at any time and with little or no advance warning. To build an Emergency Preparedness Action Plan, visit guelph.ca/emergency > be prepared.
